Dear students,
We want to take this opportunity to explain in more detail why we have recently removed in early 2025 a large amount of content from GitHub and similar platforms. These actions were taken to safeguard the integrity of 42's pedagogical approach and ensure that the learning experience remains fair and meaningful for everyone.
Why is this an issue ? Well we've been there - you just finished an awesome project and you're more than proud about it. After having written a descriptive write up, uploaded the code and put the pdfs as attachments, you push the repo. Everyone can now see your work, and witness your skills. But what if it wasn't a good idea ?
The core of 42's pedagogy is based on problem-solving, peer learning, and overcoming challenges through effort and collaboration. When subjects, project tutorial, exams or evaluation sheets are shared online, it undermines this approach. Even your code, while it is totally yours, can lead others to take shortcuts. Instead of learning through discovery, practice and collaboration, students can access direct answers, which not only weakens their own educational journey but also creates an unfair advantage over those who respect the rules.
Leaking such content has always been against the internal rules at 42. However, we have observed an increasing impact of these leaks, making it necessary for us to take stronger measures. The spread of unauthorized content compromises the learning experience and, ultimately, the reputation of 42's pedagogy.
Our goal is not to punish anyone but to reinforce a culture that values learning and meaningful collaboration. Peer learning is a core pillar of 42, discussing concepts and helping each other understand problems is encouraged, but this should not cross the line into sharing full solutions.
If you come across leaked materials, you can contact your local pedago team that will forward the matter to the central staff. We rely on the community to help uphold the principles that make 42unique, because it where its strength lies. Our commitment is to ensure that this environment remains one where hard work, curiosity, and perseverance are valued.
We invite you to consider how you engage with the learning environment built on collaboration and integrity. If you have any thoughts or concerns, we welcome an open conversation.
Thank you for your understanding,
